Due to their potential health benefits, Lion’s Mane Mushrooms Are the New Focus for scientists and medical professionals.
Scientifically called, Hericium erinaceus, the Lion’s Mane mushrooms have been an integral part of conventional Chinese medicine.
We need to obtain more scientific clarity on the medicinal properties.

There have been claims that this specific fungus may help treat neurological diseases. Trials are being conducted to assess the claims further.
Currently, a study has found that chemicals extracted from lion’s mane mushrooms may stimulate the proliferation of neurons when exposed to nerve cells.

“I am a molecular neurobiologist, and we grow neurons in a dish on an ongoing basis for many projects. One of my former Ph.D. students alerted me that the lion’s mane mushroom could activate neurons. Therefore, we got involved in a collaboration and tested several compounds extracted from this mushroom. It became clear that some of these compounds had potent activity when we realized that the length and number of branches dramatically increased,” informs Professor Frédéric Meunier, Queensland Brain Institute.
Researchers involved in the process could arrive at two critical aspects:
First, as part of the study, rats’ embryonic neurons were exposed for 24 hours to lion’s mane mushroom extracts, and their length and branching were compared to neurons in a controlled group.
It was found that neurons that received exposure to lion’s mane mushroom were longer than those that didn’t.
The researchers also found that adding lion’s mane mushroom extracts to the diet of mice automatically enhanced their ability to remember faces.
